RIP John Doherty

Photo of John DohertyIt is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the passing of John Doherty, who was a member of our City of Melrose family. John was the Division Foreman for Parks and Forestry within the Department of Public Works, and he was responsible for maintaining our city’s green spaces—a responsibility he took very seriously.

John made significant contributions to the City of Melrose through his daily work. When you look around Melrose, at our beautiful parks and playing fields, the grounds of our schools and municipal buildings, and our tree canopy, you are looking at John’s work and leadership. He was instrumental in helping Melrose look the way it does today—always seen in our community lining fields, cutting grass, pruning trees, maintaining flags city-wide—and the list can go on and on.

A Melrose resident, John was dependable and strongly committed to his job. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and an all-around super guy.

He will be sorely missed by his colleagues in public works and by this entire community. We extend our heartfelt thoughts to John’s family.
