The Melrose Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition will be joining the national observance of Recovery Month in September by hosting “Light the Night: Supporting Recovery & Remembrance Vigil” on the evening of Wednesday, September 26th, 2018.  The Vigil will celebrate those in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders, encourage and support those trying to achieve recovery and remember those who have lost their lives to these diseases.

The night will begin with special words from Senator Jason Lewis, Representative Paul Brodeur and other special guests, followed by words of congratulations, encouragement & remembrance from loved ones, a “Light the Night” ceremony at sunset and a Moment of Silence. The event will be moderated by Kathy Guevara, the Executive Director of the Coalition.

We encourage all community members to attend this free event to show their love and support for those individuals and families affected by mental health and substance use disorders.  Mental Health & Addictive Disorders have significantly impacted the nation, our state, our cities and towns.  Please come promote the message that behavioral health is essential to health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and that people do recover.  The vigil will begin at 7pm at the Ell Pond Gazebo Park (next to Bank of America) in Melrose.

Please note:  If you would like to have a loved one remembered at the vigil, please email their name and age along with a small message to Kathy Guevara at kguevara@cityofmelrose.orgno later than September 20th, 2018 or call (781) 979-4128.
