Public Information Session on Melrose Community Electricity Aggregation Program June 19

A Public Information Session about the Melrose Community Electricity Aggregation Program will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the Aldermanic Chamber at Melrose City Hall, 562 Main Street. Community Electricity Aggregation (CEA) is the process by which a municipality arranges for electricity supply from a competitive electricity supplier on behalf of the residents and small businesses in the community.

The Melrose CEA Program was initially approved by the Board of Aldermen and the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) in 2015 and the first program was launched in January 2016 through July 2017. The original electricity supply contract with Constellation was not renewed at the time as the City was unable to procure a rate that was less than National Grid’s Basic Service due to unique market dynamics in 2017 and 2018.

The Melrose Energy Efficiency Manager and the Mayor’s Office, along with our consultants from Good Energy, have been monitoring the electricity markets and decided to re-introduce the Melrose CEA Program for Board of Aldermen and DPU approval this year. As such, the Melrose Aggregation Plan is available for the public to review through June 22, 2018 on the City of Melrose website at www.cityofmelrose.org. If approved by the DPU this year, the program would start in early 2019.

Comments on the Melrose Aggregation Plan can be submitted to Martha Grover, Melrose Energy Efficiency Manager by email at mgrover@cityofmelrose.org, in writing to her at City Hall at 562 Main Street, Melrose, MA 02176 or by calling 781-979-4195.
