Melrose Encourages Residents to Get Ready to Vote

Ahead of the November 2nd municipal election, the Melrose Elections Office encourages residents to make a plan to vote.

Your first step is making sure you are registered. Check your registration status and if needed, register to vote at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/ or www.RegisterToVoteMA.com. The registration deadline is October 13, 2021 at 8:00 PM for the November 2, 2021 election.

Important Deadlines:

  • October 13 8:00 PM, deadline to register to vote in municipal election.
  • October 27 5:00 PM, deadline to request absentee or vote-by-mail ballot.
  • November 2 Election Day. Polls open 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

Voters can cast their ballots in one of three ways:

  • Vote by Mail;
  • In-Person Early Voting;
  • In Person on Election Day

Vote by mail - submit a vote-by-mail ballot application to the Melrose Elections Office.  Applications are available on the City of Melrose website (www.cityofmelrose.org/elections) as well as on the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website (www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/2021-Vote-by-Mail-Application.pdf).  Ballot applications may be submitted in person, by mail, emailed to elections@cityofmelrose.org, or dropped into the secure ballot drop box located behind City Hall.  The deadline to submit a vote-by-mail application for the upcoming election is October 27, 2021 by 5:00 PM.

In-person early voting – visit the City Council Chamber located on the first floor of City Hall (562 Main St.) on the following dates:

  • Saturday, October 23rd, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Monday, October 25th, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Tuesday, October 26th, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday, October 27th, 9:00 AM – noon and 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

In-person on election day – on November 2nd residents will vote at the temporarily consolidated polling location - Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School gym complex (entrance is 90 Melrose Street). Polls are open from 7 AM – 8 PM.
