Mayor Paul Brodeur welcomes the community to join him and community partners for a brief ceremony to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The ceremony will take place outdoors in front of the Essex Street entrance to City Hall on Sunday, September 11 at 9 a.m.

The ceremony will begin with a moment of silence at exactly 9:03 a.m., which is the moment that the second plane hit the South Tower of the World Trade Center. After the moment of silence, Mayor Brodeur and local faith leaders with offer brief remarks. Members of the Melrose Fire Department, Police Department, Veterans’ Services Department and the City’s delegation will also be present for the ceremony.

“Our nation has a responsibility to never forget this tragic act of terrorism. By continuing to commemorate this day every year as Melrose has done so in the past, we never will,” said Mayor Brodeur. “Please join us in-person for a moment of silence on the City Hall lawn. For folks who are unable to join us, I encourage you to take your moment at home, or wherever you may be, at 9:03 a.m.”

Community members can contact the Mayor’s Office with any questions around the event by emailing mayorsoffice@cityofmelrose.org or by calling (781)-979-4440. City Hall is located at 562 Main Street in Melrose.
