Keep Your Pet Safe on the Fourth of July!

The Fourth of July can be a difficult time for pets—in fact, more dogs run away around the Fourth of July than any other time. Our Animal Control Officer, Coral Hope, offers these suggestions:

  • Please make sure your pets are wearing their tags with identification in case they get loose, so we can return them if they are found.
  • Do not take your dogs to fireworks displays.
  • When leaving your dog at home, make sure he or she has a favorite toy, and access to a cozy area.
  • Try to drown out the sounds of fireworks with white noise.
  • Take your dog on a long walk before the fireworks start so they get tired and use up a lot of energy.
  • If you are home, make sure you stay calm and reassure them everything is ok.
