How to Use the Melrose Public Library's Digital Resources

Here's a message to the public from Linda CW Gardener, the Director of the Melrose Public Library.

The Library’s building may be closed, but the MPL digital library is available to you 24/7.

What can you do at the digital library?

Read, listen, watch! - Overdrive/Libby lets you borrow and enjoy free eBooks, audiobooks and magazines, while Hoopla is a digital media service that allows Melrose residents* to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV! We have temporarily increased our usual limit of 5 loans per month to 10.

Stay current with our online newspapers or…

Get distracted with Ancestry.com – temporarily available from home courtesy of Proquest and its partner Ancestry.

Explore these options and more on our website, as well as options available to the whole Commonwealth through Boston Public Library and the Massachusetts Library System.

Don’t have a library card? Don’t worry!

Email us with the following information: Full name, street address, telephone number, email address, and birthdate. You will receive a temporary library card number and PIN, which will be valid for three months. Upon re-opening, we will revert to our normal procedures. Temporary card holders will be able to come to the library with their photo ID and proof of address to convert their temporary cards to permanent cards.

Still have books or DVDs at home? Don’t worry about that, either.

Take your overdue items off your worry list. No fines will be assessed while we are closed. All library material due dates will be extended until after we have re-opened, and do not need to be returned while we remain closed. Any holds currently in the building will be available to you for 5 days after we re-open.

Got a question? Let us know…

Our staff are available to assist you with your library needs. We are checking our phones and email regularly, and are here to help you. Email us at mel@noblenet.org or leave a message at 781-665-2313, ext 117.

We look forward to welcoming you back into the building at the right time.  Until then, as many library services as possible are available to the Melrose community, including curated collections and staff expertise. We encourage you to visit us online, contact us via email or give us a call.
