Forbes Scholarships Presented to MHS Graduates

Forbes Scholarship recipients and their families, with Scott and Mary Forbes

The Forbes Family and the Disabled and Limbless Veterans, Inc., are pleased to announce that MHS graduates Katie Meade and Michael Calvert were selected as the 2018 recipients of the Bill Forbes Scholarship.  Katie and Michael both received $5,000 towards their college tuition during a check presentation held in the Aldermanic Chambers on June 22nd.

Katie actively participated in the Melrose Veterans Memory Project all four years of her MHS career.  She also designed and oversaw the creation of the Student Respect Garden, which was dedicated this Memorial Day at the Knoll across the street from the middle school.  She will attend Boston College in September, majoring in biochemistry.

Michael is a student athlete whose father and brother are both United States Marines.  He will attend the University of Connecticut, with a concentration in mechanical engineering. In addition, Michael is considering the university's ROTC program, and follow in the footsteps of his family's proud military service.

The Forbes family is truly grateful for the continued support received throughout the community as they celebrate the life and memory of Bill Forbes and continue his work towards making a positive difference in the lives of others.
