Evening Storm Update: March 13, 2018

Good evening, We are anticipating at least another 1-2 hours of heavy snow as another intense band of the storm comes through the area, and then it will snow at a lesser rate into the evening until around 10:00 p.m., with snow showers possible throughout the night. In terms of depth, 12-14” has already fallen with another 2-4” possible.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The parking ban will remain in place through 6:00 a.m. tomorrow.
  • Superintendent Taymore has announced that Melrose Schools will be cancelled tomorrow.
  • The Milano Center and the Council on Aging will be closed tomorrow.
  • City Hall and the Library will be open per their regular schedule.
  • Thank you for staying off the road today. This has made plowing much easier.
  • Now that you are starting to dig out, please do not move snow onto the streets.
  • Road plowing will continue into the evening. We need to continue to plow and widen roads. Unfortunately this will conflict with what residents are doing, but we have no choice. If possible, please save the cleaning of the end of your driveway for later this evening or tomorrow morning.
  • Please keep children from playing and walking on the roads, and don’t crowd the plows—it’s dangerous.
  • Once the roads are complete we will focus our attention overnight on school lots and sidewalk plow routes and then spend Wednesday and Thursday cleaning corners.
  • We will be planning removal of snow from business districts on Thursday overnight; additional information will be released tomorrow.
  • The DPW Operations center will continue to be staffed until 11:00 p.m. and then re-open at 7:00 a.m. Please call 781-665-0142 with any snow-related questions or problems.
  • Trash and Recycling collection will take place tomorrow and will follow a holiday schedule: Tuesday trash will be collected Wednesday; Wednesday trash will be collected Thursday, etc.

I want to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation as DPW continues to clear the snow for the public’s safety.
