DCR to Host Public Meeting On Improvements to the Lynn Fells Parkway and Melrose Street Intersection

DCR

To keep the Melrose community informed and civically engaged, Mayor Brodeur’s office has announced that the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will host its next Public Information Meeting about the Lynn Fells Parkway at Melrose Street intersection improvements on Thursday, June 9 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Community members can join the virtual meeting by visiting https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ySv9KIqHQC6vkDTgCBp-DQ

For over a decade, this State-owned intersection, which is managed by DCR, has been the topic of much discussion, given its high volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, its lack of signalization, and its proximity to Melrose High School and Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.

DCR currently requires two crossing guards at this intersection to help students safely cross the street during school arrival and dismissal times. The intersection also has multiple entrances and exits into the intersection from adjoining streets and parking lots that complicate navigation for both drivers and pedestrians.

Since 2020, DCR has considered several alternatives and gathered feedback at two other public meetings. Earlier this year, DCR identified a preferred alternative for the reconfiguration of this intersection that involves the addition of a traffic signal.

During the June 9 meeting, the DCR team for this project will present the preferred alternative design for a new traffic signal at the Lynn Fells Parkway at Melrose Street Intersection. This design has been informed from DCR’s series of public meetings on the conceptual design. DCR’s preferred design can be viewed at www.cityofmelrose.org/sites/g/files/vyhlif3451/f/uploads/lynn_fells_pkwy_at_melrose_st_preferred_003.pdf

For anyone who needs assistance when registering, please contact Daniel.Cushing@mass.gov During the meeting, the public will be invited to ask questions and provide feedback on the proposed design, using the raise hand and chat functionality that will be available through the virtual participation platform.
