City of Melrose Health and Human Services announces Art Contest Winners

The Melrose Health and Human Services (HHS) Department hosted an art contest for youth in Melrose this summer and received a plethora of artwork featuring the theme ‘what makes you happy?’ “We want to thank everyone who participated in the art contest. We’re glad we could introduce students to the practice of self-care through art this summer,” said Anthony Chui, Health and Human Services Director.

The art created by Melrose youth was featured at the HHS table at the Victorian Fair on September 11th for the public to vote for winners. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were picked along with two honorable mentions: 

Art Contest Winners:

  • 1st: Phoebe Key O’ Neil (Grade 5)
  • 2nd: Angel Bethune (Grade 6)
  • 3rd: Lillian Boulay (Grade 2)
  • Honorable Mention: Ethan Bessette (Grade 3)
  • Honorable Mention: Joy Bethune (Grade 4)

“It is inspiring to know we had so many youth participants”, said Emily Hatchouel, Health and Human Public Health Specialist. “We’re hoping to offer events such as this contest a regular occurrence. We want to engage the community and spread awareness about mental health and the resources the City has available.”
