Last week, Mayor Paul Brodeur and the City’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DE) consultant, Rick Pinderhughes of VISIONS Inc., hosted a virtual Community Forum around the results of the City’s Racial Climate Survey and Focus Groups.

Community members can watch the video of the forum by visiting vimeo.com/724592993 or listen to the podcast version by visiting soundcloud.com/mmtv3/diversity-equity-inclusion-community-forum-june-22nd-2022?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing. Both the video and the podcast were produced by MMTV.

During the forum, Mayor Brodeur and Mr. Pinderhughes discussed the results of the survey and focus groups, as well as how the City can address gaps in its DEI efforts and better meet the needs of the community, as recommended by Mr. Pinderhughes.

In addition, Polina Latta, the Director of Human Resources and Labor Relations for the City of Melrose, and Margot Fleischman, the Mayor’s Chief of Staff and Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications, shared steps already taken by the Human Resources office to advance the DEI efforts of the City and outlined which steps the City will take in the near future to meet its goal of being “One Community, Open to All”. Finally, a community Q&A Session was held as part of the forum.

Mayor Brodeur encourages Melrose residents to read the report, created by Rick Pinderhughes, that summarizes the results of the survey and focus groups, which can be accessed via this link: www.cityofmelrose.org/sites/g/files/vyhlif3451/f/uploads/melrose_pp_survey_may_2022.pdf

The City of Melrose is committed to creating a community that embraces inclusiveness and respect for all. By hearing from and listening to the experiences of those who live, work, or study in Melrose, together we will create a path forward.
