Board of Registrars of Voters

Established in accordance with the administrative code of Melrose, the Board of Registrars of Voters holds voter registration sessions, certifies signatures on nomination papers and petitions, hold hearings and decides disputes over signatures on nomination papers, prepares the annual list of persons 17 and older, and employs poll workers and ballot counters. The Board has all of the other powers, duties and responsibilities that are given to Boards of Registrars of Voters by Massachusetts General Law. (see MGL c. 51, §§ 15 and 25) and is a regulatory multiple-member body of the City.

Membership consists of four members, one of whom is the City Clerk, acting as Clerk for the Board.  As nearly as possible the Board shall represent the two leading political parties and in no case an appointment will be made to cause the Board to have more than two members, including the City Clerk, of the same political party ensuring equity and parity among the parties.
