About Melrose:
The City of Melrose lies approximately seven miles north of Boston. Sandwiched between Interstate 93 and Route 1, and just a few miles south of Route 128 Melrose also has three MBTA Commuter Rail Stops (Haverhill Line) and the MBTA Orange Line's Oak Grove stop at the border of Melrose and Malden. The city is also very walkable and bike-friendly.

Although predominantly residential with a population of 29,817 (2020 Census) , there are close to 600 businesses employing almost 6,000 in Melrose. The City has a thriving Downtown with a growing restaurant scene and boasts neighborhood retail districts and a few areas that support larger businesses and industries, which help diversify the City’s economic structure. Employers in Melrose such as Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Whole Foods Market and numerous small businesses and organizations contribute to the local economic activity. The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building is a commemorative monument to the patriotism of service men and women from Melrose who died for their country. As a cultural center for the community it seats over 800 people and hosts a variety of events and programs annually including the Melrose Symphony Orchestra.

The City’s overall economic development goals are to maintain our vibrant downtown, support our business community, create jobs for residents and attract new businesses to open here. Melrose’s downtown and neighborhood commercial districts are part of what attract and retain residents. Keeping our commercial areas strong and keeping jobs in Melrose is a priority for the City, as evidenced by a newly created Economic Development position. This position, which is part of Mayor Brodeur's team, collaborates with the Office of Planning and Community Development, and other departments, and maintains relations with the City’s active Chamber of Commerce, nonprofits and arts organizations.
