Welcome to Melrose Visual Budget!
The annual budget is our road map for establishing priorities for the upcoming year. Some remain constant, while others shift due to changing circumstances. The city budget is a valuable tool for deepening the conversation between government and citizens about how your money is spent and why. Understanding the context for financial decisions allows the community to help develop values and priorities for Melrose every year.
Melrose Visual Budget is our new online tool intended to provide the public with a visual representation of the City’s financial history and outlook, as well as illustrate key trends. Through the use of this tool, we hope to increase both transparency and civic engagement.
The Melrose Visual Budget displays historical data as well as projections into future fiscal years, allowing citizens to understand how the budget has changed and how that impacts them, including cuts to state aid and increased reliance on property taxes.
A very unique feature of Visual Budget is that it will take your individual tax bill and display exactly how much you pay for each city department and service.
In addition to the link for Melrose Visual Budget, below is the current FY16 operating budget as approved by the Board of Aldermen.
I hope you will take a few minutes and explore the Melrose Visual Budget. As always, we appreciate any questions or feedback you may have about the Visual Budget. Please email MVB@cityofmelrose.org and we will be sure to answer them.
