Melrose is Open for Business - Join Us!
Just 12 miles north of Boston, Melrose may be small in size, but it has a lot to offer. Melrose features a historic downtown and a wide range of local and regional open space and recreation options, cultural activities, community events, educational opportunities and community amenities. It is home to many industries including small retail businesses, restaurants, personal care services, professional services and more.

Melrose remains a highly desirable location for both its residents and businesses given its density, walkability, and variety of commercial districts. Over the past decade, economic development in Melrose has been centered around the City’s efforts to promote Smart Growth and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) that takes advantage of the City’s vast network of transit options and bustling business districts. About the Department:

In 2022, the City of Melrose hired its first Director of Economic Recovery and Business Development. The role was created to help the City compete regionally for economic development opportunities and to effectively resource existing local businesses, non-profit and arts organizations that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The position is also involved with recruiting, retaining and supporting businesses and fostering economic growth within the City's downtown and major commercial business districts.

The Director of Economic Development creates and fosters municipal/business partnerships, offers business assistance, communicates important City information and manages a business and nonprofits database. All existing and potential Melrose business owners and nonprofit leaders are invited to reach out to the Mayor's Office with any ideas, questions and/or feedback, at lgrymek@cityofmelrose.org
