MISSION STATEMENT FIRE DEPARTMENT 
The Fire Department protects the citizens of Melrose from the ravages of fire in the most effective manner possible and provides state of the art emergency medical care.

Operations
The citizens of Melrose enjoy the protection provided by the 58 members of the City's Fire Department under the command of Chief John J. O'Brien. Operating out of three stations located across the City, the Department provides fire protection, emergency medical services and numerous response capabilities - truly an "all hazards" Fire Department.

In addition the Department operates a comprehensive Fire Prevention Division under the command of Captain Ed Collina, which enforces all facets of state law for the safety of the City's citizens and visitors. The newly created Emergency Medical Services Division is charged with providing emergency ambulance service to the citizens of Melrose. The Fire Alarm Division, operated by the Superintendent of Fire Alarm Kevin Walsh, maintains the municipal fire alarm circuits and box plug-outs, the fire dispatch center, and the public safety radio system.
