PROJECT UPDATES

 

Work Completed-to-Date

Work commenced and was completed on the MWRA sewer line replacement. Crushing operations were conducted on building masonry debris to enable the bricks and foundation walls to be recycled and used as fill material on the site. Additional structural fill was delivered to the site and placed in and around the new building footprint. Compaction of the soils was achieved by using a 12-ton vibrating roller machine. The relocation of the existing drainage culvert was performed and 48" PVC pipe, catch basins and drain manhole structures were stalled. Concrete footings and foundation walls were poured. Footing and foundation wall forms were stripped and waterproofing and insulation of the foundation walls was completed. Installation of the storm water detention system beneath the Tot Lot was installed. The MWRA re-alignment of the sewer line that crosses the site was completed. Plumbing and electrical rough-in beneath the first floor slab was completed. Installation of the utilities to the project was completed. Footings for the tot lot equipment were poured. Structural steel was delivered to the site and erection of the steel frame for the building was completed. Excavation and re-grading of the ball field was performed. Steel decking was installed and floor slabs were poured. A new 24" MWRA water main was installed. Framing of exterior walls was performed. Exterior walls were boarded and exterior masonry work was performed. The modular block retaining wall located near the cafetorium area of the building was installed. Asphalt binder coarse for the parking area was installed. Installation of granite curbs and concrete walks began. Asphalt shingle and rubber membrane roofing was installed. Interior doorframes were installed. Framing of interior partitions is completed. Electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC rough-in work began. Insulation of exterior walls was completed. Installation of gypsum wallboard on interior partitions began. Installation of window frames was completed. Exterior window frames are glazed. Framing of interior partitions is completed.

Completed as of 4/26/02:
Electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC rough-in work have been completed.  The insulation of exterior walls and gypsum wallboard on all partitions is completed.  Nearly the entire building has received all but the finish coat of paint.  All ceramic floor tile in the bathrooms has been installed and about 85% of the ceramic wall tile is complete.  The hand-painted student tiles have been installed in the second and third floor corridors.  All wood doors have been installed and glazed.  All lockers for the building have been installed.  Nearly all of the wood manufactured cabinets in the classrooms have been installed.  Installation of laminate countertops and window sills is nearly complete.  With the exception of exterior caulking of expansion joints and windows, the envelope of the building is complete.  All glass curtain-wall is complete. Nearly all acoustical ceiling grid has been installed.  The basketball backboards in the gym have been installed.

 

Upcoming Schedule of Work 

The HVAC contractor has begun installing the heating/ventilator units in the classrooms.  The plumbing contractor has begun installing plumbing fixtures in the bathrooms.  The fire protection contractor has been installing sprinkler heads throughout the building.  The electrical contractor has begun installing classroom light fixtures on the second and third floors and corridor lighting fixtures in corridors.  The tile contractor will continue installing ceramic wainscot in the first floor corridor and the backsplash of the classrooms.  VCT (vinyl floor tiles) is being installed in the third floor classrooms and is expected to be complete in the coming weeks.  All acoustical ceiling tiles are expected to be installed in the next few weeks.  Installation of the wood gym floor is expected in the next couple of weeks.  Installation of custom millwork such as built-in counters, cubbies and benches will begin in the next few weeks.  Installation of acoustical wall panels in the gym has begun.  Work on the remainder of the grading of the site will continue.  The contractor expects to hydro-seed the ball field in the next few weeks.  Installation of granite curbing around drives and parking will begin shortly.
