Protection and License called to order by Chairman Infurna at 7:10 p.m. Alderman McAteer-Margolis motions to open Public Participation, 2nd by Alderman Boisselle. All in favor. No one comes forward. Alderman McAteer-Margolis motions to close Public Participation, 2nd by Alderman Boisselle. All in favor. Order No. 08-236, APPROPRIATION Amount: $20,500.00 From: Certified Free Cash To: A/C #012212-527500 - Fire, Motor Vehicle Repair as set forth herein Chief O'Brien says this money will get him through the end of the year. There are a couple of outstanding bills he has to take care of. Engine 3 needed a brake job and broken springs repaired. He said he hopes to come before the Board for a new engine in October. Alderman McAteer-Margolis moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman Boisselle. All in favor. Order No. 08-241, Second Hand Dealers Licenses Renewed by the City Clerk commencing May l, 2008 Alderman Boisselle moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman McAteer-Margolis. All in favor. Chairman Infurna says no one is present to speak to Order No. 08-240, Class II Motor Vehicle License Application for a Class II Motor Vehicle License to Joseph Sasso, JAS, LLC d/b/a Ro’s Auto Sales at 735 Broadway, Melrose, MA Alderman Boisselle motions to place Order No. 08-240 on hold, 2nd by Alderman McAteer-Margolis. Chairman Infurna says perhaps the committee could recess in the event Mr. Sasso arrives prior to the beginning of the budget hearings. Alderman Boisselle motions to recess, 2nd by Alderman McAteer-Margolis. All in favor. Protection and License recesses at 7:14 p.m. Protection and License reconvenes at 7:26 p.m. Order No. 08-240, Class II Motor Vehicle License Application for a Class II Motor Vehicle License to Joseph Sasso, JAS, LLC d/b/a Ro’s Auto Sales at 735 Broadway, Melrose, MA Mr. Sasso says he is in the process of purchasing Ro's Auto Sales on Route 99. Alderman McAteer-Margolis asks where 735 Broadway is located. Mr. Sasso says it's on Route 99 just after Lowe's. Alderman McAteer-Margolis asks if it is currently a car dealership. Mr. Sasso says yes. Alderman McAteer-Margolis asks if he has been in the car dealership prior to this. Mr. Sasso says yes, for about five years, and he has worked for Ro's for about a year. Alderman McAteer-Margolis asks if he has dealerships in other locations. Mr. Sasso says no. Alderman McAteer-Margolis says he requested a license for about 75 cars. The Building Commissioner's report doesn't respond to that number. Mr. Sasso says he doesn't recall asking for 75 cars and he's happy with the current number of cars allowed. President Conn says the Board of Aldermen was in a strange situation a couple of months ago with a license application. He asks Mr. Sasso if he has a contract to purchase the business from the current owner. Mr. Sasso says yes. President Conn asks if the current owner knows he is before the Board of Aldermen this evening. Mr. Sasso says yes. Alderman Boisselle motions to amend by deleting "approximately 75 cars" in Line 7 of the application and inserting in place thereof "22 cars", 2nd by Alderman McAteer-Margolis. All in favor. Alderman Boisselle moves to recommend as amended, 2nd by Alderman McAteer-Margolis. All in favor. Alderman Boisselle motions to adjourn, 2nd by Alderman McAteer-Margolis. All in favor.
