Public Service called to order by Chairman Tramontozzi at 7:45 p.m.  Alderman Mortimer motions to open Public Participation, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.  No one comes forward.  Alderman Seaboyer motions to close Public Participation, 2nd by Alderman Mortimer.  All in favor.

Order No. 08-195, APPOINTMENT Of: Christopher Cockshaw To: Conservation Commission Term to expire the first Monday of March 2011

Alderman Mortimer motions to suspend the rules to allow Mr. Cockshaw to come forward, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Chairman Tramontozzi says there is a letter from Mayor Dolan requesting the Aldermen's confirmation of the appointment.  Chairman Tramontozzi asks Mr. Cockshaw to tell the members about himself.

Mr. Cockshaw says he graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering and received his Masters in Environmental Engineering from Northeastern University before earning his MBA from Suffolk University.  He has practiced environmental engineering for 14 years dealing mostly with water and water treatment matters throughout New England.  He says that Susan Murphy is an acquaintance of his and that she asked him if he would consider serving on the Commission.

Chairman Tramontozzi says he sees on Mr. Cockshaw's resume that he has experience working on several projects in Melrose.  Mr. Cockshaw says yes.

Mayor Dolan says he tried to select someone that could meet the needs of the Conservation Commission and Mr. Cockshaw is a wonderful applicant.  His résumé is extraordinary and in facts meets all the needs of the Commission.

Chairman Tramontozzi says he is curious about Mr. Cockshaw's publication on Canadian geese and asks if he is able to apply those skills to Melrose.  Mr. Cockshaw says Canadian Geese are considered the quintessential team.  They fly in a "V" formation and the quacking heard is the actual cheering on of the head of the line.  If one goose gets sick, two others will go off with it to tend to it or if it passes, they will fly off together.

Alderman Mortimer moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Alderman Mortimer motions to adjourn, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Public Service adjourns at 7:50 p.m.

There are no orders in the Committee on Legal and Legislative Matters or the Finance Committee to be acted on.
