Public Service Committee

Public Service called to order by Chairman Tramontozzi at 8:05 p.m.  

Alderman Mortimer motions to open Public Participation, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.  No one comes forward.  Alderman Mortimer motions to close Public Participation, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Order No. 08-097, APPOINTMENT OF: Keith Fleming, 47 Prospect St. TO: Conservation Commission Expiration: first Monday in March, 2008

Mayor Dolan says Mr. Fleming has considerable experience in the field of environmental protection and is involved with Friends of the Fells and a member of the Sierra Nevada Club.  He says Mr. Fleming answered the call to serve on the Conservation Commission when he read about it in the newspaper.  Mr. Fleming says he appreciates the opportunity to serve Melrose in this capacity.

Alderman Brodeur says the appointment expires in March 2008 and asks if he will be reappointed.  Mayor Dolan says yes.

Alderman Mortimer moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman Medeiros.  All in favor.

Order No. 08-098, APPOINTMENT OF: Beverly A. Hinckley, 83 Lincoln St.

TO: Conservation Commission Expiration: first Monday in March, 2008

Chairman Tramontozzi says Ms. Hinckley is unable to serve on the Conservation Commission due to a previous commitment.

Alderman Mortimer motions to give the matter Leave to Withdraw, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Alderman Mortimer motions to adjourn, 2nd by Alderman Medeiros.  All in favor.

Finance Committee

Finance Committee called to order by Chairman Medeiros at 8:13 p.m.  Order No. 08-110, TRANSFER Amount: $985.00 From: A/C #011522-534200  HR, Books & Periodicals  $200.00; A/C 011522-54  HR, Dues & Memberships  185.00; A/C #019122-543100  Worker’s Comp. Medical  600.00; To:  A/C #019302-530500- Informational Tech., Departmental, Office Supplies  This money is needed for office supplies for the Information Technology Department.

Alderman Mortimer moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  Ms. Long says the funds are available from her department; she will not be using the dues for the MMA this year nor does she need the funds for books and periodicals.  She says the IT department handles the office supplies budget, but that these funds will be used in the HR office.

Alderman Tramontozzi moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Order No. 08-113, TRANSFER Amount: $2,400.00  From: A/C #011522-560200 - Educational Reimbursement  $2,000.00; /C #019122-543101 - Worker’s Compensation Expenses  400.00; To: A/C #011522-543000 -  HR, Physical Exams  This transfer is necessary to fund pre-employment medical exams for two police officers, one firefighter, and two DPW candidates in FY 2008

Chairman Medeiros says this order was referred by the Protection and License Committee and the funds are available.  Alderman Mortimer moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Order No. 08-114, TRANSFER Amount: $l,687.64 From: A/C #012111-511000 -  Police-Salary & Wages; To:  A/C #012112-525202 –  Computer Support  This transfer will enable the purchase of an FBI-approved network system printer and duplexer and two years’ maintenance for the equipment.

Chairman Medeiros says this order was referred by the Protection and License Committee and the funds are available.  Alderman Mortimer moves to recommend, 2nd by Alderman Seaboyer.  All in favor.

Alderman Mortimer motions to adjourn, 2nd by Alderman Tramontozzi.  All in favor.

Finance Committee adjourns at 8:25 p.m.
