Alderman Mortimer
motions to suspend the rules
to allow Mayor Dolan to introduce Mr. Thorp, 2nd by Alderman
Forbes. All in favor.
Mayor
Dolan nominates Bryan Thorp to this important position.
He says that Mr. Thorp's credentials are outstanding and the
Mayor is happy that he is willing to share his experience and willing to
make this commitment.
Mr. Thorp
says he is honored to be nominated to the position.
He says he knows from being involved in an architectural practice
and having experience going before zoning boards that it is a critical
role. He applauds the
Melrose Planning Board's recent adoption of the Smart Growth policy.
Alderman Wright
asks about his appearing before zoning boards in the past.
Mr. Thorp says he served as the project architect for the
Masconomet Regional High School and presented the plans and design for
it. He has also appeared
before the city of Boston's ZBA. As
a former member of the Melrose Zoning Board of Appeals, Alderman
Wright thanks Mr. Thorp for volunteering and thanks Mayor Dolan for
bringing forward a qualified candidate.
He says that most things before the Melrose ZBA are not complex
but have an impact on the neighborhoods.
He recommends to Mr. Thorp that he take advantage of Chairman Steve
Broadley's experience and says the City Solicitor's office is also a
great resource.

Alderman Brodeur
motions to adjourn, 2nd by Alderman Mortimer. All
in favor.
