Meeting Minutes

Minutes of February 17, 2000

Present: Paul Locke, William Bailey, Nancy Naslas, Robert Boisselle

  1. Minutes of 02/03/2000
    The minutes of the 02/03/2000 meeting were accepted.

  2. Financial
    The Commission approved the payment of $169 for bills submitted.

  3. Correspondence
    Letters, news letters from the following sources:
    • MassWildlife News - mid winter eagle survey.
    • Vernal Pools Conference @ URI - $40 registration would be covered by MCC
    • GeoTms Newsline
    • Vernal Pool Ecology @ Earth Tech - $85 registration would be covered by MCC
    • Wetland Wildlife @ Hoiliday Inn Marlboro - $60 registration would be covered by MCC
    • MACC Newsletter - Annual Meeting 03/04/2000 $60 registration would be covered by MCC
    • Annual Report for MCC is being requested by the Mayor's office - Bob to submit.

  4. Capital Improvement Budget request - no submittal this year.

  5. Tec Associates - Railroad Vegetation Management Plan submitted to MCC (no action)

  6. Ell Pond Improvement Council - minutes of their meeting was read. Festival 6/17/200

  7. Maple Terrace
    MCC received a copy of the registration of DEP File #217-110 at the Registry of Middlesex.

  8. Hearing
    The hearing for the chemical treatment of Ponds in Melrose began at 7:45 PM. The hearing was called to receive input from the community of the upcoming application of herbicide to control fanwort, coontail and waterlilies in Ell Pond, Towners Pond and Swains Pond. There was no opposition to the application of the herbicide.

  9. Mr Gerald Smith from Aquatic Control technology gave a brief description of the herbicides (Reward and Rodeo) to be used this year. The Comission voted for a negative Determination for this project.

    Public Participation

    Mr Dave Mathews and Mr Robert Cunningham voice concern about the construction of a home off Whittier St. The property is near Conservation land and they wish to know if any safe guards were needed and if the Comission would be selling any land in the area. They were infomed that no plans have been submitted to the Commission at this time and the Commission was not in the habit of selling Conservation land.
