- Trash: On
trash pick up day simply place waste at curbside before 7:00 AM,
preferably in plastic trash bags. On
holidays, trash pick up is pushed back one
day. Trash is NOT accepted at
the City Yard.
-Yard
Waste: Yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, branches and brush less
than
one inch in diameter) should be placed in labeled barrels on designated
pick
up days (see schedule). Please
pick up a YARD WASTE sticker at the DPW in the
City Hall basement. Yard waste
can also be dropped off loose or in paper bags
at the City Yard (72 Tremont St.) Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM- 2:45 PM
and seasonally
on Saturdays (see schedule).
-Recycling:
Melrose
is a community that places a high importance on recycling!
Please consider recycling paper, cardboard, glass and plastic
bottles,
and aluminum and tin cans. Recycling
bins can be picked up free of charge
at Whittemore Hardware (531 Main St.) or at the City Yard.
Please
see the
map to determine if you need a red or green bin.
Recycling is also accepted year
round at the City Yard for those residents who do not receive curbside
pick up.
-Drop Off
Days: Tires, computer monitors, televisions, fluorescent light bulbs,
rechargeable and button batteries and mercury items are accepted at the
City
Yard on designated drop off days (third Saturday of April, May, June,
September,
October) for a small fee.
-Metal
Items: Metal items like household appliances, pipes, storm doors,
windows,
and radiators are picked up by appointment on red recycling Tuesdays
for
a small fee of $15. Please
visit the DPW in the City Hall basement to schedule
your pick up.
-Hazardous
Waste: Household Hazardous Waste pick up days are held every October.
Please come to the City Yard to drop off hazardous materials like paint,
paint removers, etc. |
