Swains Pond Route

     This route begins at the Melrose Common. Leave the park and head down Sixth Street, which eventually becomes Swains Pond Avenue. You will follow a scenic path that goes between Towners Pond and Swains Pond. Turn right at the intersection with Penny Road and Dexter Road, staying on Swains Pond Avenue. Use caution as there is not always a clearly designated sidewalk, and there are blind turns in the road. Continue on Swains Pond Road until you reach Lebanon Street, when you will turn right. Continue up Lebanon Street past the Wyoming Cemetery and Lebanon Street Park.
     If you feel like proceeding onto a challenging hill on your route, then turn right onto Park Street. At the top, turn left onto Whitman Ave and follow it back to the Common
     For a less tiring path, make your right turn a bit later onto Beech Avenue, Grove Street, or Laurel Street. Laurel Street will bring you straight to the Common. If you turn onto Beech Street or Grove Street, you will need to make the left turn onto Whitman Avenue. Then continue onwards to the Common.
     There are some small sections of this route that do not have easily accessible sidewalks. Be careful of cars and do not use this route if you feel uneasy about the conditions.
