Melrose Elementary School Route

This circular route winds its way through the entire City of Melrose. It can be easily modified to accommodate any level of ability. The walker can start at any school and end at any school along the way. For the seasoned runner, however, this route in its entirety is scenic and full of community landmarks. Start at the Horace Mann School at 40 Damon Ave. The next stop is the Winthrop School. Go left towards Glendale Ave. Take a left onto Glendale. Cross the street and turn right onto Cochrane St. Turn right onto Howard St. Cross and turn left onto Nelson Rd. Cross the Lynn Fells Parkway and Nelson Rd. becomes Lincoln St. Go all the way down Lincoln until reaching Upham St. Turn left. Cross and turn right onto Ashcroft St. Go down Ashcroft and see the Winthrop School on the corner of Ashcroft and First Sts. The next stop is the Hoover School. Turn right at the Winthrop and go down First St. Cross and turn left onto Larrabee St. The Common will be on your left after a block. Larrabee will soon become Whitman Ave. Go down Whitman until you see Glendower Rd. Turn left onto Glendower. After a block the Hoover School will be on your left at 37 Glendower Rd. The next stop is the Ripley School which now houses the Early Childhood Program. Keep going down Glendower past Beacon St. Turn left back onto Whitman Ave. Cross and turn right onto Meacham St. Cross and turn left onto Spear St. Go town Spear St. until reaching Lebanon St. Turn right. The Ripley is across the St. at 94 Lebanon.	Roosevelt School

	The next stop is the Lincoln School. Go down Lebanon St. until reaching Sylvan St. Turn left while noting the scenic Wyoming Cemetery. Go down Sylvan until reaching Main St. Note Pine Banks Park on your left. Turn right onto Main St. Go down Main St. until reaching W. Wyoming Ave. Turn left. The Lincoln School will be down several blocks and on your left at 80 W. Wyoming Ave. The next stop is the Beebe School which houses the 6th grade because of Middle School construction. Keep going down W. Wyoming. Cross and turn right onto Cottage St. Turn left onto W. Foster St. The Beebe is on your right. The next stop is the Roosevelt School. Cross W. Foster and turn right onto Vinton St. Stay on Vinton. The Roosevelt will be on your right. The next stop is the Franklin School. Keep going down Vinton. Make sure to stay right at Warwick and Sears Sts. Keep going until Franklin St. Turn right. Go down Franklin St until reaching Main St. The Franklin School is on your right at the corner of Main and Franklin Sts. The final stop is the Horace Mann School. Turn left onto Main St. Cross and turn right onto Pearl St. Turn left onto Damon Ave. and finish at the Horace Mann School. Click here for a map of this route. Back to main page.
