     This short route is only a third of a mile. It is a good route for younger children or those just beginning to walk for exercise. Begin at the Winthrop School and turn left until you reach Waverly Ave. Then turn right and then right again onto Laurel Street. Then continue on past the Melrose Common and turn right on Larrabee St. Turn right again onto East Foster St. Then either head back to the Winthrop School, where there is an excellent playground, or turn right onto Sixth St. Here you can have ice cream and play in the Common. This route is handicap and stroller accessible.
