About Melrose

Ell Pond Route: Green Level, handicap accessible
(estimated distance between 1-1.5 miles)

This route begins at the Ell Pond gazebo on Main Street. This Victorian Gazebo was built in 1984, dedicated to a founder of the Melrose Victorian Society named Gerry Nadel. You will also see the memorial to war veterans facing Main Street along the side of the pond with the benches facing the water. Continue around Ell Pond (using either streets or the pathway along the waterside). The knoll is also a war memorial. It was named Memorial Park on Armistice Day, 1921. Now it is a memorial to veterans of all foreign wars.

Crystal St. tennis courts

You will pass the tennis courts, soccer fields, and basketball court. Follow the path down and around until you come to Lake Ave. Turn left and follow this street until it meets up with West Emerson Street with the library on your right. Continue back around to where you began at the gazebo. This is a short scenic walk with some sites of historical significance along the way.
