Melrose
is a community that cares about the environment. Here in Melrose, we
recognize the importance of proper care for our habitat and the need to
combat ecological problems such as the melting of the Polar Ice Caps,
pollutants such as CFCs and fossil fuels, the depletion of the Ozone
Layer, and the green house effect, to name a few. Besides realizing the
effects that these threats pose, Melrose
recognizes the need for us as a community, to take action. One way that we
wish to do this is by encouraging all our citizens to recycle. We
also spread environmental awareness through the Melrose Public School
System and our recently reinstated Melrose Elementary School
Recycling Contest, in which each elementary school Middle School team (A,
B, and C), will compete amongst themselves to beat their previous year’s
recycling quota.
In addition, the new
Melrose Veterans’
Memorial
Middle School
will become the first green school in
Massachusetts. By encouraging our youth
to combat global warming and other problems against Earth, and encouraging
them to keep
Melrose
clean, Melrose
realizes the benefits of a clean and healthy community.
