Interesting Facts

The Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School's "green" design has many creative and interesting features to help protect the planet. Some of these features include:

Building the Middle School at a centrally located site minimizes the carbon emissions released and gas utilized to drive there. More people will walk and fewer miles have to be driven.
Joint use of facilities and parks conserves energy.
Minimizing parking encourages the use of carpooling, public transportation and the use of bicycles.
Elimination of CFC-based refrigerants will cut down on harm to the ozone layer.
Reducing the use of potable (tap) water by 30% will conserve water and reduce water pollution.
A recycling contest similar to that of the elementary school contest will be implemented in the 2007-2008 school year. This will not only teach young people about this important subject but also contribute to the positive environmental impact of the school.
