MISSION STATEMENT FIRE PREVENTION/CODE ENFORCEMENT 
The Office of Fire Prevention/Code Enforcement provides life safety and property protection information and related inspections to all residents and businesses in the City of Melrose.

The Fire Prevention/Code Enforcement Division is responsible for the enforcement of the City of Melrose's Fire Ordinances, Chapter 148 of the Massachusetts General Laws, Code of Massachusetts Regulations 527 and the National Fire Protection Association Codes. It handles complaints from the public, Notices of Hazard from Fire Companies, and Notice of Violations from the Inspection Services Department and the Melrose Housing Authority. In addition, Fire Prevention/Code Enforcement conducts contamination inspections of vacant and abandoned buildings in conjunction with the Inspection Services Department.
